Dear Neighbor,
Happy Friday!

🍁✨ Summer is great but fall is my personal favorite and it is officially here this Sunday! There is no better place to be in the fall than New England! From stunning foliage to apple orchards and cozy fall festivals, our state is the ultimate autumn destination.

In this week's eblast, you can read about and watch the energy event hosted by the Fairfield delegation, learn about Hispanic Heritage Month, and more. You can click the links below to navigate between sections.

Energy Event Recap
Thank you to Marissa Gillett, Chairwoman of the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority, and Dan Dolan, President of the New England Power Generators Association, for joining the Fairfield delegation and dozens of Fairfield residents to discuss why our electric bills are so high, and what can be done about it.

It's so important for leaders to hear directly from the residents of our state to know how policies are impacting their lives. Through this process, we can craft impactful policies that change our state for the better.

This was an insightful conversation with Chair Gillett and Dan, and I hope you'll consider watching the event in full.

You can watch a story from News12 on the event here.

Hispanic Heritage Month

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re not just celebrating culture - we’re honoring generations of resilience, creativity, and impact. From art to innovation, the Hispanic community continues to shape our world in powerful ways. Let’s uplift, honor, and keep making history together!

Mattress Recycling Collection Event
A reminder that the town-wide collection and recycling of mattresses is this Saturday, September 21 from 8:30am-12:30pm at Veterans Park (909 Reef Road)!

More than 50,000 mattresses are discarded in the U.S. every day - consigning to the nation's waste stream an item that actually can be recycled into many new, useful products.

If you have an old mattress or box spring that you'd like to discard in a better, more environmentally friendly way, plan on bringing it to this free event.

Any mattress, no matter when it was purchased, can be brought to the event for no-cost recycling, if it is not damaged, heavily soiled, or posing other health or safety risks.

International Coastal Cleanup Day
Sustainable Fairfield will be hosting an International Coastal Cleanup Day of Pine Creek and Fairfield Beaches this Saturday, Sept. 21 from 9-11am at Jennings Beach and 10am-noon at the far west end of Fairfield Beach Road.

So far, over 11.5 million people around the world have worked together to pick up over 210 million pounds of trash from nearly 390,000 miles of shoreline.

If you have the time, please consider attending and help in the efforts to keep our community clean and thriving.

"Building an American Voice" Exhibition Opening
A message from the Fairfield Museum and History Center about the opening reception for their new exhibit, which will take place Sunday, Sept. 22 from 2:30-4pm:

"Join us to celebrate the opening of our new exhibition Building an American Voice.

Since the nation’s founding, there have been fierce debates regarding which members of society had access to the “unalienable rights” of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” articulated in the Declaration of Independence. In the centuries after America began its democratic experiment, not every voice has been heard. Our new exhibition explores moments in local and national history that highlight how people of all ages, backgrounds, and cultures took action to advocate for social justice, fought for civil rights, and often succeeded in enacting change.
