Good News for Fairfield & Bridgeport from the Siting Council

October 16, 2025

Just a few hours ago, a ruling came down in Fairfield and Bridgeport's favor. The CT Siting Council voted 5-3 against United Illuminating's (UI) monopole application. This is a welcome relief to residents in both the Town of Fairfield and the City of Bridgeport.

This was a great collaborative effort across both communities, both legislative delegations, community organizations, and private citizens. Thank you to Fairfield First Selectman Christine Vitale and our late First Selectman Bill Gerber for their hard work, and to Governor Ned Lamont for his support on this issue.

During the 2024 legislative session, House Bill 5507 (Public Act 24-144) passed and was signed into law, with reforms to correct regulatory bias and enhance participation and rights of state residents, businesses, and municipalities in infrastructure siting and construction decisions.

What this means is that should UI choose to resubmit their application, they'll have to do so under the new state law.
