Hispanic Heritage Month began on September 15, and will be celebrated through October 15. During this time, we’re not just celebrating culture - we’re honoring generations of resilience, creativity, and impact. From art to innovation, the Latine/Latino community continues to shape our world in powerful ways. Citizen’s Police Academy returns in October
The annual Citizen’s Police Academy program of the Norwalk Police Department returns again this fall with twice-weekly classes offered from October 17 to November 21.

This free program is open to Norwalk residents 18 years and older, and consists of ten classes held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Participants will get an inside look at police operations, from ride-alongs with patrol officers to learning more about how the NPD interacts with state and federal agencies. Classes will also include opportunities to pose questions about community issues and concerns facing Norwalk residents.

Advance registration is required and space is limited. Applicants will be subject to a background check.

Weekend Bridge Maintenance on I-95 Over the Saugatuck River in Westport
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) announced bridge maintenance on I-95 over the Saugatuck River in Westport. This project is scheduled to occur on Saturday, September 28 and be completed on October 14, 2024. The project consists of waterproofing the deck of the bridge over Saugatuck River in Westport and expansion joint device replacement. 
 
LANE CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO
There will be scheduled lane closure and traffic restrictions on I-95 northbound between Exits 17 and 18 in Westport from 6:00 a.m. Saturday September 28 through 6:00 a.m. Monday September 30, 2024. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained on I-95 northbound for the weekend. The same restrictions will continue for the following two weekends (October 5-7, 2024 and October 12-14, 2024).
 
Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
 17th Annual Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest 

Optimum and the Univision Foundation are sponsoring the 17th annual Hispanic Heritage Student Essay Contest. Middle and high school students can submit an essay on their connection to Hispanic culture. Four $3,000 scholarships will be awarded. Click here to learn more.

Annual Touch-a-Truck and Open House Event Saturday, September 28th

The City of Norwalk will host its annual Touch-a-Truck and Open House event on Saturday, September 28th, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Norwalk Public Works Operations Center. This free, family-friendly, hands-on experience will include demonstrations, fun giveaways, and wastewater treatment plant tours. Children and adults will have the opportunity to explore the City’s vehicles, learn about the services the City provides and meet City officials. Visitors are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items in support of the Open Door Shelter in Norwalk, such as peanut butter, jelly, tuna, macaroni & cheese, pasta sauce, soup and kid-friendly snacks.

The City of Norwalk Hosts Budget Public Hearing

The City of Norwalk will host a hybrid Budget Public Hearing on Monday, September 23, at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers ahead of the development of the Fiscal Year 2025-2026 Operating and Capital Budgets.
