Let's Talk About It:
Housing with Majority Leader Jason Rojas

We welcomed House Majority Leader Jason Rojas for an in-depth conversation on housing on the latest episode of “Let’s Talk About It.” Majority Leader Rojas offered valuable insight into House Bill 8002, legislation we passed during a special session in November that takes meaningful steps to address Connecticut's long-standing housing shortage while encouraging the redevelopment of underused properties and promoting transit-oriented development.

Our discussion explored how the traditional American dream of home ownership is steadily becoming out of reach for many residents.
House Bill 8002 takes a closer look at that issue by recognizing the urgent need to building housing of all types, including multi-family homes, apartments, duplexes, mobile homes and more, so communities can better meet the needs of families, seniors, and individuals across the state.

We also talked about whether the rising cost of living is putting pressure on Connecticut's population and economic growth and whether the housing market can realistically respond to growing demand.

Remembering Walter Pawelkiewicz

It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of former State Representative Dr. Walter Pawelkiewicz last weekend. He served the Windham community with unwavering dedication, determination, and grace, leaving a lasting mark on the town he cared so deeply about.
During his time in public office, Dr. Pawelkiewicz played a central role in the vision that eventually led to the creation of the “Frog Bridge” in Willimantic. He was also instrumental in the development of the new Windham Middle School, helping ensure future generations would have access to modern educational facilities.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, February 27 from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce Street in Westerly, Rhode Island.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 28 at Christ Church in Westerly. The burial is private.

Changes To SNAP Benefits

Beginning on Sunday, March 1, important changes to Connecticut law will affect how the state will issue SNAP benefits.

Under the new legislation, Connecticut will begin staggering the distribution of SNAP benefits throughout the first eight days of the month, rather than loading them primarily the first few days. The change is designed to:

  • reduce congestion at grocery stores and retailers
  • improve access to food
  • create a smoother, more dignified experience for SNAP recipients

You will find additional details about the new schedule in the graphic below.
