Governor Lamont Launches Reporting Tool for Entities in Connecticut Impacted by Recent Federal Actions

Any Connecticut based businesses, nonprofits, and municipalities that has been impacted by recent actions from the federal government are encouraged to report that information through a newly established online reporting tool. The information will be compiled into a central database and provide state policymakers with a better understanding of how these directives are affecting various groups, geographical regions, and sectors of the economy.

Some examples of reportable items include:

  • Pauses, cancelations, and reductions in federal funding
  • Reductions in employment
  • Impact from tariffs

Cancer Screening For Firefighters

Due to repeated exposure to smoke, toxic chemicals, and carcinogens in the line of duty, evidence has shown that firefighters have a greater prevalence of cancer than the general population. These heroes have high-risk jobs and keep our communities safe - the last thing they need to worry about is navigating their healthcare.

I am happy to announce that, effective May 1, the State of Connecticut is expanding the benefits it provides to firefighters to include free, enhanced cancer screenings. That means more than 900 firefighters enrolled in the state employee health plan and Partnership Plan will now have free access to a comprehensive, full-body scan once every two years.

Early detection is key to successful treatment outcomes, and these regular screenings will help keep them healthy and keep their minds at ease.

Any firefighter enrolled on the state employee health plan or Partnership Plan who is seeking more information can visit carecompass.ct.gov to connect with a representative, schedule an appointment, and find providers in their area.

Northwest Corner Events

The Hunt Library ArtWall will hold a special screening of vintage film animation based on a book of Grimm’s Fairy Tales by Eric Carle tomorrow, April 18 at 3PM. Rarely seen since their original television broadcast in the 1970s, these rare cartoon gems have been preserved with film-to-digital transfers made possible by a gift of the films from producer CB Wismar and through a grant from Northwest CT Community Foundation. One of the cartoons, The Fisherman and His Wife, features noted voice actors June Foray and Hans Conried and was an Academy Award finalist for best animated short in 1979.

Sharon Community Roadside Clean Up

Sharon's annual Community Roadside Clean Up will be held  on Saturday, April 26 at 10:00am. Volunteers will collect litter on the roadsides of our beautiful town. The Sharon Energy and Environment Commission will provide safety vests, and garbage bags. Please bring your own gloves. This is a fun town event and a great way to do something for your community and the environment while getting fresh air and exercise.

Volunteers will meet at 10 a.m. on the Green in front of the Hotchkiss Library of Sharon. There is parking available around the Green and behind Town Hall. At 10 a.m. we will assign routes and distribute gloves, vests, and bags (black for trash, clear for recyclables such as cans).

Check the SEEC page on the Sharon Town Website for updates on a weather-related change of date.

If you would like more information, or if you would like to bring a team of volunteers, please send an email to this address - seecct@gmail.com.
