Last week, I had the honor of helping to welcome Valerie Powell-Stafford, MHSA, FACHE, as the new president of St. Francis Hospital. She comes to Hartford with 25 years of experience, including most recently serving as President and CEO of HCA Northside Hospital, in St. Petersburg, Florida. As president, she will also oversee Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital.
Powell-Stafford received her Master of Health Science Administration from the University of Michigan. She is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a Past Governor, and earned the organization’s Exemplary Service Award and Regent’s Award. Powell-Stafford was the 2023 Woodson Museum of Florida First Lady in African American History Honoree and named the 2022 Tampa Bay Businesswoman of the Year honoree.
While she comes to Hartford from Florida, she is no stranger to Connecticut. She began her career here, serving as an Administrative Fellow and Associate Director of Ambulatory Services at Yale New Haven Hospital.
