MOVE! With the Urban League of Greater Hartford on Saturday at Keney Park

This Saturday, people of all abilities, ages, and fitness levels will come to the third annual MOVE! With the Urban League of Greater Hartford event in Hartford’s Keney Park. The Hartford Marathon Foundation (HMF) and the Urban League of Greater Hartford are collaborating again with presenting sponsor Pratt & Whitney to host a 5K (3.1-mile) and a 1-mile race, a free kids run, and a Movement Festival of fitness activities, near the historic park’s Woodland Street entrance, off of Greenfield Street in Hartford. People can register in advance now OR on-site on the event day.

The family-friendly event celebrates the many ways members of the community are active while also showcasing the amenities of Keney Park, the “Jewel of the City” and one of the largest designed park landscapes in the U.S. The event kicks off at 9 a.m. with the 5K and a 1-mile race in which participants can run or walk. At 10:15 a.m. the free HMF FitKids fun run takes place.

Between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., the public can enjoy a free Movement Festival with live entertainment, fresh produce distribution, food, health and fitness information, yoga and stretching demonstrations, movement stations, arts & crafts, and community resources.

An awards ceremony will take place following the runs/walks, including the inaugural Exum Award in honor of the late Earl Exum, a former Pratt & Whitney Vice President and Chair of the subsidiary International Aero Engines, and a former Urban League Board Treasurer, who died suddenly last fall. Earl was an extremely active community leader and a strong advocate of fitness and health. The award, in his name, will be presented this year and in future years to an individual or entity who contributes to the community health of Greater Hartford. Pratt & Whitney employees will run/walk in Earl’s memory and host a booth at the Movement Festival.

Entry Fees for Runs/Walk: 

Adults: $25 for 5K and $20 for the 1-Mile – includes a t-shirt.

Ages 13 through 21: $15 for 5K and $10 for the 1-Mile – includes a t-shirt.

Ages 12 and under: Free for 1-Mile and HMF FitKids Fun Run – t-shirts are available for purchase.

Free Admission for all ages to the 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Movement Festival.
