Forum On Avoiding Anthem, HHC Disputes

November 24, 2017

I'm relieved that Hartford Health Care (HHC) and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield reached a resolution to their contract dispute this past week.

This means that people insured by Anthem can continue seeing their regular medical providers associated with HHC without fear of paying out-of-network expenses.

While this is very good news, it is unacceptable that this dispute lasted seven weeks, jeopardizing the health of many CT residents who were unable to schedule needed medical procedures or see their usual doctors.

The legislature's Insurance and Real Estate Committee will hold a public information forum followed by a public hearing on the contract dispute on Tuesday, November 28. The current crisis may have been averted, but we must prevent this from happening in the future.

Informational Forum & Public Hearing
Tuesday, November 28th
Forum at 10 am / Public Hearing at 12 pm
Legislative Office Building, Room 2C, Hartford

Both the forum and hearing are open to members of the public if you are interested in attending. I hope that this will give us the answers we need to ensure residents' health care access is not compromised by future contract negotiations.
