Dear Neighbor,

As the budget passed by the GOP in Congress takes effect, the news will be grim. I’ll report to you on our efforts to care for one another. At the same time our community is moving forward on improving our quality of life, and I’ll report that too.

First, the Trump administration announced that there will be no SNAP benefits November 1. This is catastrophic. Connecticut has responded in two ways:

  1. Governor Lamont released $3 million to Foodshare for food banks.
  2. Attorney General Tong is suing the Trump administration for illegally suspending SNAP benefits and withholding dollars appropriated by Congress.

Both responses are important but we know they are not enough. Details on food distribution to come.

Second, Umbrella has been recommended for a $250,000 planning grant for a  performing space on Blake Street. I toured there on Westville Weekend.

There’s a lot to be concerned about, and to respond to.  We can also celebrate the community building of our neighbors.

Sincerely,

Patricia Dillon
