Dear Neighbor,
On Thursday, Governor Lamont submitted a supplemental plan to the bipartisan leaders of the Connecticut General Assembly to use funding from the recently created Emergency State Response Reserve in response to federal funding reductions and delays made by the Trump administration and Congressional Republicans to essential health and human services supports that the residents of Connecticut depend on for some of their most basic needs. Clifford Beers in New Haven is one of the organizations that will receive a Community School grant.
I joined delegation members this fall to meet with the superintendent and go through the budget. This was important because communication broke down last year. I do not serve on the Education Committee and was looking to see if the city had maximized available tools to educate our children. Education funding cost drivers identified were special ed, transportation, and school construction issues. Additionally, the superintendent led a presentation at Edgewood School. I asked about Edgewood School, the first in the school construction program, which has been underfunded historically. I had raised this before and asked if the issue had been fixed. The staff explained the problem, and said this has been fixed. I’ll be following up on the details. Finally, you may have heard about or seen coyotes on our streets. This is mating season so secure your small pets because the coyotes may be very territorial. It’s been a busy week, and I’ll report more later. In the meantime, enjoy your weekend and stay warm! |
