Dear Neighbor,
Much news this week.
- An alarming court decision last Friday could put our residents at risk. This blesses the “mandatory” detention in the 5th Circuit without bond (and little chance at habeas) of every undocumented immigrant (including visa overstays) who originally entered across the border, no matter how many decades in the past. It will fuel ICE’s push to transfer people to Texas immediately. At minimum airports within two hours of New Haven - whether Bridgeport, New York, Massachusetts- should be monitored for private charter flights. Click here to learn more.
- Education spending in New Haven is driven by special ed and transportation, but special ed spending is not transparent. This week, Disability Rights CT issued a critical report on Connecticut. Click here to access the report.
- Majority Leader Furlow and John Cavaliere leading a community lead effort to remove blight at 781 Whalley. I was impressed by the participants and presentations at the CMT.
- The Regicides improv group will hold two performances this weekend. Click here to learn more.
- Happy Valentine’s Day!
