Dear Neighbor,

The Avon and Farmington fire departments are holding a fundraiser dinner on Sunday, Feb. 23, for Deputy Chief Dave Theriault, who is currently battling Stage 4 cancer.

In addition to being a devoted family man, Theriault has been a dedicated servant to the town of Avon for over 30 years.

The dinner -- which will include an appetizer hour as well as a pasta dinner -- is taking place at the Farmington Polo Club, 162 Town Farm Road, from 3 to 7 p.m.

Tickets, which will be available at the door, are $20 for adults and $10 for seniors and children.

Severe Weather Protocol

Governor Ned Lamont announced last week that the state’s severe cold weather protocol will be in effect until noon on Saturday, Feb. 22. During this time, temperatures are expected to drop to the single-digits.

While activated, the protocol initiates a series of actions to ensure that the most vulnerable populations receive protection from the severe cold.

As a reminder, Farmington's Warming Center locations is the Farmington Community Center, located at 321 New Britain Ave.

The Community Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am until 10 p.m. The warming shelter can also be opened by calling the routine number at Farmington Police Department – 860-675-2400.

If you or someone you know is homeless and in urgent need of shelter, please dial 2-1-1 for emergency support and connection to a shelter (available 24/7).
