Increased Optimism about Connecticut's economy

December 2, 2016

A recent survey shows that Connecticut residents are seeing an improving economy, and millennials in particular have an optimistic outlook. Seven in ten Connecticut residents say overall business conditions in the state are either better or the same as six months ago, according to the quarterly Inform CT Consumer Confidence Survey, and 75 percent expect conditions to either remain the same or improve in the next six months.

The survey also found that:

  • 41 percent of respondents age 22 to 25 - the most optimistic age group - say overall business conditions are better than six months ago
  • 30 percent of respondents said their personal financial situation is better today than six months ago
  • Only one-third of respondents expressed concern for their job security, down from 42 percent in the first quarter of the year
  • 43 percent of respondents say they're likely to make a major consumer expenditure for furniture or another product, up from 26 percent a year ago
