In Honor of Rep. Peter Villano

February 9, 2024

Former Hamden Mayor and long-time State Representative Peter Villano passed away this past Sunday, February 4th at the age of 100 years old.

Peter’s life epitomized public service.  He served as Hamden Mayor from 1981 to 1985 and was the State Representative of Hamden for 20 years from 1991 to 2011. I was honored to succeed him in that role but could never fill his shoes.  As I mentioned in my remarks on the floor of the House of Representatives, Peter dedicated himself not just to the people of Hamden, but to the people of our entire State – especially our elderly community.  As Co-Chair of the Legislature’s Human Services Committee and the Committee on Aging, Peter advocated tirelessly for the rights of our seniors. For that advocacy, he was named 2001 Legislator of the Year by the Connecticut Coalition on Aging.

Please join me in expressing what many Hamden residents feel, which is our thanks and gratitude to Peter Villano and his family for his decades of public service, including to his service to our country as a U.S. Navy Veteran.

He was a mentor to many, a friend to more, and a public servant to all.
