125 years of Trolley service and New Wrong Way Detection System Installed in Branford

August 7, 2025

I’m thrilled to share news about an exciting development in our community: the launch of the Branford Early Start Partnership for Children. This new local early childhood initiative has been made possible through recent state legislation.

Early childhood development has always been close to my heart, and I’ve had the privilege of contributing to this work as a leader on both state and local levels. The partnership represents a meaningful opportunity to strengthen support for young children and families right here in Branford.

In the coming months, you’ll be hearing much more about our programs, events, and ways to get involved. I encourage you to follow their progress and consider joining us in this important work. You can connect with the Branford Early Start Partnership for Children on Facebook to stay updated on their latest initiatives and opportunities for community engagement.

10th Annual Women of Excellence Awards Luncheon

Each year, the Shoreline Chamber of Commerce recognizes female leaders from Branford, Guilford, and North Branford. The recipients for the Women of Excellence Award are powerful and influential in the areas they work in.

Pictured below with Rep. Moira Rader and I are the Branford honorees. We presented legislative citations to Erica Palmer for Youth Development Leadership and Sheryl Morrell for Volunteerism Leadership. Erica was recognized for her role leading Branford Lacrosse and Sheryl for leading the Branford Festival.

Congratulations to all who are lucky to work with these incredible individuals.

Shore Line Trolley Museum

Congrats to The Shore Line Trolley Museum for reaching the milestone of 125 years of trolley service. If you haven’t made it to the museum lately you are really missing out. They have restored dozens of trolley cars that transport you through history exploring the beautiful Short Beach marshlands and Farm River area. Thank you for preserving this history for future generations to enjoy.

End of Session Legislative Update Newsletter

If you live in the 102nd district, it's the time of the year that you will receive my End of the Session Legislative Update in your mailbox. It's a brief overview of some of the important pieces of legislation that made it across the finish line. It will highlight our investments in families, healthcare, and the environment. While we did quite a bit more, I have the challenge of narrowing it down to issues I believe are important to constituents.

I hope you will take the time to look through it. Never hesitate to send me feedback, it's always appreciated!

National Connecticut Day

Sunday, August 10th is National Connecticut Day, which recognizes our contributions as the fifth state to join the United States of America on January 9, 1788. Our great state has a rich history that you can explore at The Museum of Connecticut History (231 Capitol Ave., Hartford) and The Connecticut Museum of Culture and History (One Elizabeth Street, Hartford).

You can delve into Connecticut's vibrant cultural scene and plan your next adventure through the official state tourism website: CTvisit.com.

Wrong Way Detection System Installed

Exit 54 southbound in Branford now has a new Wrong Way Detection System installed. The system uses video cameras to detect vehicles that are traveling in the wrong direction. If a vehicle is detected, wrong-way signs outlined with multiple sets of red lights are activated and begin flashing to alert the driver that they are traveling in the wrong direction. Additionally, the system alerts the CTDOT Highway Operations Center and local State Police Troop barracks in real-time, allowing staff to monitor the activities of the wrong-way driver on the ramp.
