Friends,
Yesterday, the Connecticut House passed important legislation to strengthen protections for residents living in mobile manufactured home parks.
This issue was brought directly to me through conversations with residents at Shady Acres and Lakeview in Danbury who shared concerns about rising costs, uncertainty, and protections that simply weren’t keeping pace.
Those conversations helped inform legislation we worked on last year, and I was proud to help support this effort in the Connecticut General Assembly General Law Committee.
This year, Rep. Rebecca Martinez did tremendous work helping move this bill forward, and I’m glad we were able to continue building on earlier efforts.
The bill includes:
- Increasing relocation assistance from $10,000 to $20,000 for residents displaced by park closures
- Greater transparency around fees and charges
- More oversight of health and safety concerns in parks
- More notice before rent increases
For many families, mobile homes represent one of the last affordable paths to homeownership. Residents deserve stability, fairness, and transparency, and this bill moves us in the right direction.
I’ll keep fighting for affordable housing solutions that protect residents.
