Hi friends,
If you commute through Danbury, you know how frustrating traffic on I-84 can be, especially between exits 3 and 7.
It impacts your commute, your family time, and our local economy.
That’s why I voted this week in support of a transportation bill that helps move forward a new flex lane project in Danbury, making our city the first in Connecticut to pilot this approach.
The proposal would temporarily use the existing median shoulder as an additional lane during periods of heavy congestion to keep traffic moving.
According to Connecticut Department of Transportation, this project could reduce travel times in that stretch from 30 minutes to just 8 minutes by 2030, a 74% reduction.
The bill is also critical because it allows Connecticut to pursue federal funding and complete environmental review requirements needed to move the project forward. Without this authorization, those opportunities disappear.
This is not a substitute for larger long-term infrastructure improvements that our region still needs, but it is a practical step that can bring relief much sooner.
I also understand residents have raised questions about enforcement technology and privacy protections. I’ll continue monitoring those concerns as implementation moves forward.
For too long, people have asked when traffic on I-84 would improve. This vote helps move us toward real solutions.
As always, thank you for the opportunity to serve you.
