Starting July 1, social media companies MUST remove a minor's account at the parent or guardian's request.
This is a bill I wrote in 2021, but it finally passed as part of a larger bill in 2023, and goes in to effect this week.
The powerful social media lobby hasn't met a force stronger than a parent who needs to protect their kid. It may have taken a few years, but I felt it was important.
Next stop: same thing for payment apps like Cash App, Venmo, Zelle, etc. This is how we keep our kids safe from Big Tech. One step at a time.
