New Law Brings Birth Centers to Connecticut

A new law giving expecting mothers more access to high-quality maternal health services closer to home will take effect January 1, 2024. I had the honor of attending the bill signing for Public Act 23-147, An Act Protecting Maternal Health, which will license free-standing birth centers and allow them to operate in Connecticut.

I joined my colleagues to welcome David Vieira of VFW Post 149 in Danbury to the House of Representatives. David has led the effort to erect a memorial monument to those who fought in Afghanistan and Iraq, the first in Connecticut.

Minimum Wage in Connecticut Increases to $15 an Hour

May 30, 2023

Connecticut’s minimum wage is set to increase from the current $14 per hour to $15 per hour starting this Thursday, June 1. In 2019, my colleagues and I passed legislation that would gradually raise the minimum wage over five years. Providing livable wages to the lowest earning workers is a step in the right direction to help them make ends meet and provide for their families.

House Passes Comprehensive Update to Gun Violence Statutes

As you know, I have been a champion for common sense gun responsibility laws for decades. Last week there came the reports of an active shooter in my neighborhood. I'd like to give a big shout out to the first responders not only from Danbury’s Police Department, but also those from our neighboring towns. They apprehended the shooter, and he was put in custody.
