As the government response to COVID-19 can sometimes change at a near hourly rate, here is a one page link to the latest information out of the Department of Education.

On Tuesday, March 10th, Governor Ned Lamont declared a public health emergency to combat COVID-19, a respiratory disease that has impacted communities across the state, country, and world. As public health and elected officials have begun managing containment and limiting the spread, our ways of life have gone through some major changes, including mass self quarantines through the end of March. Below, you’ll find some information to help keep you up-to-date as experts learn more and officials act to fight the pandemic.

"These are dollars that we need," Rep. Sanchez said. "Making sure that New Britain receives its fair share of resources from the state is one of the most important parts of the job here and I'm happy we were able to follow through on that work with today's vote." 

New Britain's education system continues to get better. This year we are blessed to have the new Smalley Elementary School open on West Street. Having fought for state funding of Smalley, I am thrilled it is finally open for our students.

There are some new state laws this year that affect our students. Please join me from 5:30 - 7 p.m. Sept. 24 at Smalley Elementary, 175 West St., New Britain, to hear about the new laws and ask any questions. I look forward to seeing you there.

The back-to-school season serves as a reminder that the cold months of winter are fast approaching and many residents across the state will be in need of assistance to pay their heating bills.

Today is a great day for Connecticut. Governor Ned Lamont signed into law legislation we worked hard to pass -- the nation's most generous Paid Family and Medical Leave law.
