March was a busy month up at the Capitol and in our district. In the legislature, we were busy meeting in our committees, conducting hearings on proposed legislation and ultimately voting numerous bills out of committee to likely be considered by the full General Assembly. It's a short session this year, so things move at a very fast pace.

On March 26, following our School Meals for All press conference, I testified in support of HB 5510: "An Act Concerning Funding for Student Meals," in front of the Appropriations Committee.

For the first time, residents can take advantage of the state's new early voting law with Connecticut's April 2 presidential preference primaries.

March is Women’s History Month, a time dedicated to honoring the vital role women have played in American history and learn more about their contributions.

I wanted to take a few minutes as the session heats up and things get very busy, to update you on some important happenings both here in the district and up at the Capitol. It is such a privilege and honor to be a part of this legislative process, representing your voices in this very important work. Every community in Connecticut can point to various historic properties, protected lands, and town planning that reflect the rich history of Connecticut. Next week, I will be hosting a roundtable with members of the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). This roundtable will bring together legislators, preservation experts, and agency liaisons to better understand the processes and opportunities to preserve our shared historical assets and work towards better ways to protect and integrate our historical treasures into the future of our communities.

We approved $17 million in additional funds for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and Operation Fuel – two important programs that many residents and families rely on for cold weather heating assistance.

The 2024 legislative session began on February 7. It will be a busy time of activity, as committees meet to contemplate bills, hold public hearings to get input from constituents like you, and ultimately bring certain legislation before the General Assembly.
