I am honored to chair this committee this legislative session and to be able to play a role in facilitating the appointment of key positions that have a direct impact on Connecticut residents. In an effort to create more convenience and accessibility for Connecticut residents, the state Department of Motor Vehicles has introduced several new features on its website.

Vaccine eligibility will expand to the 55-64 age group beginning on March 1 and dedicated clinics for educators and childcare providers will also begin in March.

The State announced that in the coming weeks, you will be able to renew your driver’s license, obtain your driving history, or change your address all online and from the comfort of your home.

I am pleased to share that Connecticut is moving forward with a more comprehensive curriculum that includes African American/Black and Puerto Rican/Latino Course Studies and their contributions to the rich history of the United States.

I am pleased to report that Hartford will receive $45,730,706 in Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Funds (ESSER II) as part of the second CARES act that passed in December 2020.

The State of Connecticut is expecting about 45,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses on a weekly basis from the federal government. We now know that the State will be taking a tiered approach in Phase 1B as we work to vaccinate the nearly 1.4 million people in the recently updated Phase 1B category.

Scheduling has been opened for individuals in Phase 1B of the vaccination rollout - currently, Phase 1B is set to include individuals 75 and older; certain essential workers; and individuals and staff in congregate living settings.
