Extreme Hot Weather Protocol Due to an anticipated stretch of high temperatures, the state is activating its Extreme Hot Weather Protocol, effective at noon on Sunday, June 22. The protocol will remain in effect through at least 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25.
This is the first time this year that the protocol is being activated. The current forecast calls for temperatures to exceed 90 degrees over this period, with a heat index that could range from between 100 to 105 degrees.
The purpose of activating the protocol is to ensure that the most vulnerable populations receive protection from the hot conditions. While enacted, a system is set up for state agencies, municipalities, and other partners to coordinate with United Way 2-1-1 to make sure that information regarding cooling centers is available statewide, providing a location for those in need of relief.
Cooling centers will be available throughout the state. Anyone in need of a place to get out of the heat can locate their nearest cooling center by calling 2-1-1 or viewing the list that will be published online at 211ct.org. |

Helping Pass Equitable and Informed Policy As Deputy Speaker, I was proud to preside over the House during the passage of Senate Bill 1506—an important step toward more equitable and informed policymaking in Connecticut.
This bill ensures that racial and ethnic impact statements become a routine part of our legislative process, helping us understand how proposed laws may affect communities of color before they are enacted.
It reflects our collective commitment to transparency, justice, and the dismantling of systemic inequities that have gone unaddressed for far too long.
Thank you to my Legislative Colleagues, Staff and numerous Advocates that spoke, stood, and helped see this come to fruition.

Shoutout to the Southeastern Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. This week marks a powerful step forward for New London as we celebrated the ribbon cutting of the Southeastern Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. new expansion and the launch of "The Center for Knowledge and Professional Development".
This isn’t just the opening of a building—it’s the opening of doors to opportunity, healing, and transformation. SCADD has long been a pillar of support in our community, and this new center strengthens their commitment to helping individuals grow personally and professionally.
It’s a testament to what can happen when we invest in people, believe in second chances, and prioritize progress.
This expansion will uplift lives, empower families, and move New London forward.

Become a Respite Foster Parent! Below is a message from Community Health Resources:
Thinking about Becoming a Foster Parent? This could be the first step.
As a “respite” foster parent, you will be trained to provide short-term care (typically for a weekend or one week at a time) for children and teens while their assigned foster parents take a brief break. You’ll provide an incredibly important service and learn about becoming a foster parent through CHR, which provides comprehensive training and support. Contact us today to learn more about respite services at Chrfostercare@chrhealth.org or by calling 860.730.8727
