New London Public Schools had a great kick off to the new year at the NLPS Convocation to be held at the New London High School Multi-Magnet Campus Auditorium! It was great seeing the excited faces and energy for the upcoming 24/25 year
 
Bennie Dover Jackson Visit!
I had the great opportunity welcoming students back to School this morning at Bennie Dover Jackson Multi-Magnet Middle School Campus If you have not yet visited please stop by to see the new transformation. It was great hearing the youth and staff talk about how they enjoyed the new change and atmosphere. Thank you to Principal Vamvakides who took me around meeting many new staff and students. Salvation Army Shoe Giveaway
Big thanks to creating some amazing smiles. The Salvation Army - New London, CT took some amazing youth to get footwear this week. Thank you to Brandon & the amazing staff, volunteers and parents for helping make this great event happen. Greatly Appreciated
 
Youth Workforce Conversation
This week I had the great opportunity to hear from the youth workforce through the City of New London, Connecticut New London Recreation Department. Thank you to the staff who helped place numerous youth in careers of interest.
Investing in Connecticut’s future starts with empowering our youth! I’m proud to report that our State’s Youth Employment Program continues to grow.
This program helps teens explore careers, work side-by-side with professionals who help them build career networks, and receive job training and experience, all while earning a paycheck. Let’s support the next generation of leaders and innovators!

Thank You Al Mayo for the amazing pics. Thank you to Frank Colmenares for continuing to stand in the gap to make great things happen in our community. Big shout out to the many that donated, helped keep our youth active and enjoying the great afternoon. Thank you all, the many adults and youth that made this so successful.

Congrats to Devaughn L. Ward
Big congratulations to City of New London, Connecticut DeVaughn L. Ward. This month Gov. Ned Lamont appointed Mr. Ward to be the interim ombudsman for the state Department of Correction while the process of picking a permanent.
DeVaughn L. Ward will begin serving in the newly created position on Sept. 23 and will stay on until the 11-member Correction Advisory Committee nominates a candidate to fill the role permanently.
 
Raheem L. Mullins Nominated for Chief Justice of CT Supreme Court
Please help me give a big congratulations to the Honorable Raheem L. Mullins.

 
Governor Ned Lamont announced that he is nominating the Honorable Raheem L. Mullins to serve as chief justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court. In addition to serving as a justice on the state’s highest court, the position of chief justice is responsible for serving as the head of the judicial branch of state government and overseeing the administration of the state’s courts.
 
Boat for Women Program

FYI: The Boat for Women program is back with our next session! An excellent opportunity for women interested in a career in manufacturing, Boat for Women gives participants the opportunity to explore six core trades in just two classes—for free! Our next session will take place on September 10 at Grasso Tech and September 12 at the Westerly Education Center, and ends with a tour of General Dynamics Electric Boat’s Groton shipyard.

Thank you to Connecticut Conference of Municipalities 119K Commission and the Dalio Education - Foundation for coming to the City of New London, Connecticut giving residents & Nieghbors the opportunity to hear the ongoing work in regards to disengaged youth throught the state of Connecticut. Thank you to all that attended and voiced concerns and opinions in regards to helping Conquer this task. Looking forward to further conversation.
