Dear Neighbor,

I ❤️my job!

Last week was a busy one, mostly with committee activities. I admit I still get up the morning eager to get to work representing my neighbors. It is always interesting and exhilarating.

On Monday, the Judiciary Committee had a public hearing on bills dealing with domestic violence, child sex abuse, sex trafficking, non-consensual synthetic intimate images, and female genital mutilation. We are dealing with the increased display of fake intimate picture and other activities on the internet and in person that invades privacy and exposes threats.

On Tuesday, I joined my colleagues, Mayor Alves, and Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz at Danbury’s City Hall. We were unveiling a grant from the Connecticut Department of Transportation for Phase 2 of our streetscape renaissance. The multi-million-dollar investment is for new sidewalks, crosswalks, ADA-accessible upgrades, landscaping, trees, and parking improvements of Main Street, White Steet, and Post Office Walk.

Later, the Executive and Legislative Nominations Committee heard from and voted on nominations to the Judicial Review Board and the Psychiatric Security Review Board.

Wednesday was another Judiciary hearing on court proceedings, notaries, and consumer protection under the CT Unfair Trade Practices Act (CUTPA) concerning sports betting.

Thursday was Executive and Legislative Nominations concerning the new members of the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority. We had previously increased the number of Commissioners from three to five, and the three previous commissioners had resigned or retired. That left Danbury’s own David Arconti as a commissioner. He’ll be joined by Holly Cheesman, Janice Beecher, Everett Smith, and chair Thomas Wiehl. I’m impressed with the breadth and depth of knowledge and experience these nominees command.

Friday was an event I look forward to every year: hosting the YMCA Youth and Government program at the Capitol. High school and middle school students from Ys across the state, including the Danbury Y under the leadership of Bill McNamara, come to Hartford as legislators to debate bills, moot court attorneys to argue cases, and a Governor to sign or veto bills. For me it is always educational and enjoyable.

If you or someone you know requires assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to me at the Capitol at 1-800-842-1902 or email me at Bob.Godfrey@cga.ct.gov.

Sincerely,

Bob Godfrey
