Extreme Hot Weather Protocol
Cooling centers, pools, and splash parks are open as we enter the fourth consecutive day of an extreme hot weather protocol. It has been brutally hot and humid since Tuesday, and we all want to ensure that our most vulnerable are protected. The protocol will remain in effect through Sunday, June 23 at 12 P.M.
Call 2-1-1 or visit 211ct.org if you do not have air conditioning or a cool place to stay. State agencies, municipalities, and other partners coordinate with the United Way 2-1-1 to make sure that information regarding cooling centers is available statewide, providing a location to get some relief.

You can find Hamden's list of cooling centers HERE.

Funding to Revitalize the
Country Club of Woodbridge
The state has awarded the Town of Woodbridge $132,000 to clean up and create new life at the former Country Club of Woodbridge on Woodfield Road. The grant is coming from Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development’s Brownfield Remediation and Development Program.

The Town purchased the former Country Club of Woodbridge property for $7 million in 2009 and has been trying to redevelop the 155-acre property ever since. CLICK HERE to learn more about the history and previous requests for proposals of the club.

The $132,000 investment is part of a $26.3 million plan to remediate and redevelop 22 blighted properties across the state. The funds will cover cleanup costs so these properties can be revitalized.

Delays on Route 15 for Work by Heroes Tunnel
A reminder to expect delays tonight on Route 15 in both directions for road work near the Heroes Tunnel in Woodbridge, Hamden, and New Haven. Some lanes will be closed from 9:00 P.M. on Friday, June 21 to 8:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 22 as crews mill and fill resurface the road.

The backups on the northbound lanes will start at the Woodbridge/New Haven town line to a quarter mile past the Heroes Tunnel. Delays on the southbound side will be from just past Exit 60 (Route 10) to Exit 59 (Route 69/63).

Parking Ban in Hamden Due to Demolition
There is a parking ban in Hamden after crews tore down the former Spring Glen Hardware building on Whitney Avenue. Both the property owner’s structural engineer and Hamden’s Building Officials determined the structure was unsafe.
Parking is off limits at the following locations while work continues at the demolition site:
  • along the south side of Hawthorne Avenue along 1666 Whitney Avenue (Spring Glen Hardware)
  • along the west side of Whitney Avenue in front of the building and 1660 Whitney Avenue

Celebrating PRIDE Month
Connecticut has always been a leader in the fight for equality, and we continue to pave the way today. While there is more progress to be made, PRIDE month is a great time to look back on our progress.

Secure Your Load
This one is personal. Ten years ago, an unsecured load lifted out of a truck ahead of us. The material went into the road and when another car swerved to miss it, the driver T-boned our SUV and spun it sideways into the middle of I-84. I was in the vehicle with my then 7, 5, and 3-year-old kids.

I still consider it a miracle that we weren't hurt by the initial accident *and* were able to move from a complete stop in the middle of the highway (on a CURVE) to the side of the road without being hit again. It was absolutely terrifying, and I wouldn't wish that fear on anyone.

Unsecured loads are dangerous, illegal, expensive, and preventable. As we take more beach and camping trips, or do projects around the house, make sure your loads are tied down securely.
