Updates from State Rep. Gary Turco for March 14, 2025

March 14, 2025

Committee work is wrapping up at the State Capitol.

One of the big issues that has been discussed in the Transportation Committee is reforming the motor vehicle towing statutes.

I’ve heard from several Newington residents, including Nick DeFrancesco, testified this week on predatory towing practices.

I submitted legislation that says towing companies must accept alternative forms of payment besides cash.

Read more about the issue of predatory towing from this CT Mirror article.

Long-Term Care Insurance

Long-term care insurance is another important issue I've been working on alongside several constituents.

Some 100,000 Connecticut residents have long-term care insurance. Unfortunately, through no fault of their own, their premiums have skyrocketed through the years, in some cases by several hundred percent.

I've been working alongside colleagues like Rep. Mike Demicco on legislation to rein in spiking premiums, as well as provide relief to policy holders through other mechanisms, including creating tax credits for people with long-term care insurance whose rates have increased.

Several pieces of legislation have been proposed at the Capitol, and I will keep you posted on their status.

Girl Scouts at the Capitol!

It was such a great day Tuesday to receive a visit from the Newington Girl Scouts, who attend Elizabeth Green! I love it when our youth come to learn about our state government at the Capitol.
