CT Receives Federal Water Infrastructure Funding

October 17, 2018

I am pleased to report that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the State of Connecticut was awarded a total of $30,770,000 in Clean Water and Drinking Water grants to finance community-based water infrastructure projects, such as upgrades to municipal sewage plants and public drinking water systems.

The most important public utility during times of crisis such as storms or other natural disasters is the reliable availability of safe and potable drinking water. We have been actively working on a State Water Plan to ensure we have the necessary infrastructure in place to provide a safe and clean water distribution system and these funds will assist in that effort.

Municipalities and water companies across the state are continually working to improve the water supply quality through the upgrading of wastewater treatment plants and improved infrastructure to handle heavy storms.

These federal funds will help to ensure that Connecticut has a robust water infrastructure that will serve our residents, during times of crisis or calm, for many years to come.
