Design Our Parks: Community Engagement Discussion

Your voice is needed to design our parks!

Join the Town of Manchester’s Department of Leisure, Family and Recreation and the American Ramp Company on Tuesday, June 25th at 6:00 PM at Work_Space, 903 Main Street, for a community engagement discussion/workshop to inform the design of the Charter Oak Park West pump track and all-wheel park.

Please click here to register for the community engagement session.

The pump track and all-wheel park are part of the second phase of exciting upgrades and renovations to Charter Oak Park West. The improvements are community-driven and informed by recommendations from the 2021 Town of Manchester Parks and Facilities Master Plan.

In 2017, $2 million worth of improvements were completed, including new playgrounds, basketball and tennis courts, a revamped softball field and more. The next phase of construction will include improvements to modernize the western portion of the park, including the all-wheel park and pump track, turf soccer field, bathrooms, and a new parking area.

The current renovation phases are as follows:

  • Phase 1 consists of a new park entrance, parking and turf soccer field. Construction is scheduled to begin on this phase in the summer of 2024.
  • Phase 2 consists of the all-wheel park, the pump track and associated landscaping. Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2025.

For further updates on the Charter Oak Park West project, including this project’s team, timeline, and historical resources, please visit the park’s Your Voice Matters page.

East Hartford Hot Weather Protocol

The Governor’s Office has activated the hot weather protocol starting Tuesday, June 18th at noon  through Sunday, June 23rd at noon.

We would like to remind residents of important safety guidelines. Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of water throughout these hot days, wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing and limit time outdoors. Residents should also remember to regularly check on infants and children as well as elderly or physically ill, because they are at a greater risk for heat-related illnesses. Those individuals should be very cautious of sun exposure.

Among various symptoms of heat-related illnesses are headache, dizziness, fatigue, anxiety, nausea, vomiting, low pulse rate and others. Additional symptoms may include, but are not limited to, cold, pale and clammy skin or hot, flushed dry skin. Those who don’t have air conditioning at their home are advised to choose various indoor places to go for relief from the heat, like malls, theaters or designated cooling centers in town.

The Town of East Hartford has outdoor pools that can provide some relief during hot days. For information, visit: https://www.easthartfordct.gov/parks-recreation/pages/aquatics-swim-lessons
