Dear Neighbor,

Monday, November 11 is Veterans Day. On this day, we honor all those who have served our country in one of the branches of the military.

Veterans Day is an excellent opportunity to express our appreciation to those who served, as well as honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Please take a moment to thank veterans for their service and keep those who are currently serving at home and abroad in your thoughts.

The City of Norwalk’s Annual Veterans Day ceremony will be held this Monday at City Hall. The ceremony will begin at 10:30 am. This year’s guest speaker is Second Lieutenant Robin L. Montgomery, United States Marine Corps Reserve and former Chief of Police of Brookfield CT.

For more information about the upcoming event, please contact Norwalk City Clerk Irene Dixon at idixon@norwalkct.gov or (203) 854-7704.

Teenage students and high schools in Connecticut can win up to $26,000 in prizes by entering a submission into Connecticut’s 16th annual Teen Safe Driving Video Contest hosted by the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and Travelers.

Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death for teens in the United States. In 2022, there were 2,514 people killed in crashes across the country involving teenage drivers between the ages of 15 and 18.

The Teen Safe Drive Video Contest is open to all public, private, and home-schooled high school students in Connecticut between the ages of 14 and 18.  Contest entrants are required to create a unique and effective video public service announcement no longer than 45 seconds, highlighting interactions between drivers and other teens while illustrating ways to practice safer driving habits and obey Connecticut’s teen driving laws.

The videos must also address at least one specific Connecticut teen driving law. Click HERE to read the full contest rules and instructions on submitting a video. The deadline for submissions is February 3, 2025. To watch winning videos from previous years, click here.

The City of Norwalk’s next Can and Bottle Return pop-up recycling event will be held Monday, November 18th, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

All of the upcoming Can and Bottle Return events allow residents to recycle their collected cans and bottles and receive cash. The events will be held in the parking lot of 98 South Main Street.

Here’s how Norwalk’s Can and Bottle Return event works:

  •  Each redeemable bottle or can is worth 10¢, and a user instantly receives cash after recycling it.
  • We accept plastic bottles, glass bottles & aluminum cans.
  • Service is available until the recycling truck is full.
  • Please pack glass bottles in a cardboard box.
  •  Some craft or specialty beverage containers may not be accepted.

The City is asking residents to enter from the South Main Street entrance to help with traffic flow through the parking lot. Click here to learn more.

If you have questions, or ever need any help please don't hesitate to call me at (800) 842-8267 or email me directly.

Sincerely,

Kadeem Roberts
