Waterbury Students Visit State Capitol

April 22, 2024

I was honored to give a group of Crosby High School students a tour of the Legislative Office Building and the House Chamber in the Capitol. I tried my best to explain the whole process of how laws get made, and these young scholars from my alma mater were genuinely curious, firing off questions left and right.
I could see the awe in their eyes as they looked around, taking in the place where we make important legislative decisions. It was surreal, seeing these ninth and tenth graders soak it all in. The entire experience was more than a field trip for these students, it was a peek behind the curtain of democracy and how our government runs in Connecticut.
I relish any opportunity to teach Waterbury’s students more about state government. Seeing the eager faces of these students as they delve into the complexities of governance is truly rewarding. Each question they ask is a step toward fostering a deeper understanding of our democracy, and I am committed to empowering these students every step of the way. Perhaps, one day one of them will represent Waterbury in that very same room.
