You're invited to join me as we celebrate groundbreaking policy honoring our Taíno friends and their legacy. Please read below to see when and where that free event is taking place.
The community honored 50 Latinos this week for their leadership and accomplishments in Connecticut. I'll share pictures from the event and explain why it was important to recognize this cream of the crop.
Residents have a new resource in the 75th District for their health care needs. United Healthcare just opened a new office in our neighborhood, and I'll explain how they can help with Medicare and so much more.

Please join me and Rep. Christopher Rosario for a press conference highlighting H.R. 10, the Connecticut House Resolution we proudly introduced, making Connecticut the first state in the U.S. to formally recognize and preserve the culture and heritage of Taíno descendants.   This event is taking place ahead of the fourth annual Hispanic Heritage Month Closing & Taíno Remembrance Day hosted by the Afro-Caribbean Cultural Center on Wednesday, October 15 at 10:00 a.m. at the Silas Bronson Library. |

The Taíno people contributed to Connecticut's history while playing a vital role in our state's diverse, cultural fabric. The modern-day descendants of the Taínos inhabit Puerto Rico, Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean Sea.

I was honored to attend the "50 Latinos of Connecticut" award ceremony at West Hartford Town Hall, a powerful celebration of leadership, achievement, and cultural pride. The evening recognized 50 outstanding individuals, including my daughter Cassandra, pictured above with me, whose contributions are making a lasting impact across Connecticut in education, business, public service, the arts, health care, and beyond.

As we gathered to celebrate Latino excellence, the event served as both a moment of joy and a reminder of the vital role the Latino community continues to play in shaping our state's future. At a time when representation, equity, and opportunity are more important than ever, it was inspiring to witness the achievements of so many trailblazers who are opening doors and uplifting others along the way.

Congratulations to all the honorees. Your dedication and leadership light the way forward for generations to come.

It was an honor to celebrate the grand opening a new United Healthcare office in the 75th District, offering patients guidance on Medicare, coverage plans, health events, workshops, and more. My friend, Johnny De Los Angeles, will serve as a go-to source to help patients make the best decisions for their health care.
