New Protections in the Digital Age

The House and Senate passed Senate Bill 5, legislation that I am proud to have co-sponsored, positioning Connecticut as a national leader in protecting residents in the digital age.

Artificial intelligence is already shaping how people work, apply for jobs, use online services, interact with digital platforms, consume information, and receive public services. Senate Bill 5 makes sure Connecticut is not standing still. We are putting practical safeguards in place while embracing innovation.

The bill:

  • Protects consumers – Requires clear disclosures for paid AI subscriptions and ensures residents understand when certain digital content was created or changed by AI
  • Protects children – Creates safeguards for AI companion technologies and strengthens protections for minors using online platforms
  • Protects workers – Requires transparency when automated systems play a substantial role in employment decisions such as hiring or promotions

This legislation encourages technological advancement while setting clear expectations to prevent harm. Connecticut is taking thoughtful, proactive steps to ensure AI works for our residents.

Honoring Our Finest Latina Educators

It was an honor to celebrate the hard work of some of the finest Latina educators in our state. The Connecticut Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents (CALAS) hosted an inspiring gala earlier this month filled with great energy, pride, and camaraderie. CALAS continues to play a vital role in advancing quality education for Latino students and developing the next generation of Hispanic educational leaders across Connecticut.

Congratulations to Mrs. Diurca Lugo-Tomasella, principal of Waterbury’s Roberto Clemente International Dual Language School, on receiving the CALAS Exceptional Principal Award. Her leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to her students and staff continue to make a meaningful difference every day.

I would also like to congratulate Dr. Gladys Labas, associate professor at Southern Connecticut State University, for earning the 2026 Trailblazer Legacy Award! Through decades of leadership, advocacy, and education equity, she has created a lasting and powerful impact in the Latino community.

These remarkable women highlight the leadership that help shape brighter futures for students across Connecticut.

Celebrating the Launch of Latina Visión

I had the privilege of joining our vibrant Latino community to celebrate Ms. Miluska Rodas and her team as they officially launched their new social media platform and marketing company, Latina Visión.
Miluska Rodas officially launches Latina Visión!

Miluska’s dedication, vision, and perseverance are powerful reminders that with hard work and determination, dreams can become reality. I am incredibly proud of all she has accomplished and look forward to seeing Latina Visión grow and thrive. Wishing her and her team continued success on this exciting new journey!

Join Me for a Food Drive at City Hall

You’re invited to join me, the Waterbury Legislative Delegation, and St. Vincent DePaul for a community food drive on Saturday, May 30, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the front steps of Waterbury City Hall.

We are collecting essential pantry items including sugar, coffee, pasta sauce, stuffing, and instant mashed potatoes to support local families facing food insecurity. Your donation, big or small, will make a meaningful difference for neighbors in need.

I hope you’ll stop by, say hello, and help us strengthen our community through this simple act of generosity.
