There are only a handful of days remaining in the intense legislative session. Please read below to learn about the legislation we have passed in the House and how that policy affects our community.

The manufacturing fair was a huge success with all kinds of innovation on full display at the State Capitol! Keep scrolling to see pictures from this high-tech event connecting students with a growing industry in our state.

Improving Sewage Spill Notifications

The House advanced a bipartisan measure this week to improve transparency around sewage spills and overflows in Connecticut.

House Bill 5522, which I am proud to co-sponsor, requires the state to post sewage spill and overflow information online in a clearer, more accessible, and user-friendly format so residents can easily find and understand the data. The bill also requires entities to report spills to the Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) more promptly, ensuring greater consistency and timeliness in how the state shares this information with the public.

Unfortunately, Waterbury has experienced significant sewage spills, and those incidents highlight why transparency and rapid reporting matter. When residents have timely access to accurate information, they can make informed decisions about recreation, health, and safety near our waterways.

This legislation strengthens accountability and protects both public health and the environment by ensuring communities receive the information they deserve.

Putting Children First

After several recent tragedies involving children in Connecticut and growing calls for more accountability in our child welfare system, House Democrats lead passage of House Bill 5004, which will:

  • Prioritize placing children with family members and responsible adults who are already in their lives
  • Make sure there is follow-up with sister agencies when DCF-involved children travel out of state
  • Support caregivers and children with funding for after-school programs, childcare, and incidentals

This significant legislation reflects a bipartisan effort to reform the Department of Children and Families with policies and procedures that put children first, and a commitment to continued attention to this important issue.

Student Manufacturer Fair

Manufacturing companies brought innovation to life at the State Capitol during the 2026 Manufacturer ConneCTion Fair. From robot dogs to drones, Connecticut-based employers highlighted the cutting-edge work happening right here in our state and the exciting career pathways that come with it.

This was especially meaningful to me because I spent 36 years in the manufacturing industry. I’ve seen firsthand how manufacturing provides stable, good-paying careers. It was inspiring to watch the next generation get an up-close look at the opportunities available to them.

Students relished the opportunity to connect directly with manufacturers through hands-on demonstrations and conversations about modern careers. This year’s fair attracted 900 students along with 36 Connecticut manufacturers and organizations eager to connect with the emerging talent.

Events like this showcase the strength of Connecticut manufacturing and the importance of investing in workforce development to keep our state competitive for decades to come.

Donating Suits To Our Veterans

I was proud to support our veterans by donating several suits to the Save A Suit Drive, helping our heroes to literally dress for success as they transition from military service to civilian life.

For many veterans, returning home means navigating a new career path and stepping into job interviews. Professional attire builds confidence, helps create a strong first impression, and sends a message that you belong in the room.

Veterans often experience higher rates of unemployment when they return from the service. This bipartisan effort recognizes their sacrifice and bravery by providing free support that can open doors to new opportunities in Connecticut.

I am grateful to everyone who contributed to the Save A Suit Drive, which continues through Monday. You are welcome to drop off new or gently used suits and professional clothing outside the State Capitol.

For the Love of the Game

The baseball season is in full swing, and I’m ready to knock one out of the park with a Tater bat! The Cheshire-based company crafts custom, homemade baseball bats that are used in the Major Leagues. I’m holding a special pink edition celebrating 10 years of baseball at Dunkin’ Park in Hartford, complete with donut sprinkles on the barrel.

When I am not swinging for the fences, you might catch me playing a little toss in the House chamber. It’s important to stay on your toes on these long session days!
