Dangerously Hot Weather & Child Urgent Crisis Center Milestone

June 18, 2024

The state is about to launch the extreme hot weather protocol for the first time this year. I'll explain how this measure will help folks who do not have air conditioning before the brutal heat arrives.

Our children's urgent crisis center has been up and running for one year in Waterbury. Please keep scrolling for a look at the celebration below marking that important milestone.

Congratulations to our outstanding students who either graduated or were recognized for their hard work in the classroom. Look below for pictures of our amazing scholars.

Extreme Hot Weather Protocol
Cooling centers, pools, and splash parks will be open as we approach the start of our first extreme hot weather protocol. It will be a brutally hot and humid stretch of weather for the rest of the week, and we all want to ensure that our most vulnerable are protected. The protocol begins Tuesday at 12 P.M. and will remain in effect through Sunday at 12 P.M.

Call 2-1-1 or visit 211ct.org if you do not have air conditioning or a cool place to stay. State agencies, municipalities, and other partners coordinate with the United Way 2-1-1 to make sure that information regarding cooling centers is available statewide, providing a location to get some relief.

Major Milestone at Our Children's
Urgent Crisis Center
We held a celebration to mark one year since the opening of a children’s urgent crisis center in Waterbury. This facility, which is licensed by the Department of Children and Families, offers 24/7 mental health care for children and teenagers who are in need.
Wellmore Behavioral Health functions as a walk-in clinic, providing children, teens, and their families with immediate access to resources during a behavioral health crisis. Some of these services include crisis stabilization support, comprehensive mental health assessment, and short-term medication. The goal of this urgent crisis center is to prevent a trip to the emergency room to address behavioral health.

Congratulations to Our Exceptional Scholars

I would like to congratulate all the Crosby High School seniors who recently earned awards for their educational pursuits. They were honored in front of family, friends, and their fellow students at a special event. It was awesome to see the community come together to celebrate our young scholars' accomplishments.

Additionally, I want to give a shoutout to the eighth grade graduates of Brass City Charter School in Waterbury! These young scholars worked diligently and deserve to be recognized for their hard work. Congratulations to the class of 2024!
