All month long, I will raise awareness about the importance of attending health screenings during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I'll break down how Connecticut has passed laws to fight this disease and how Waterbury is playing a role in this effort.
I would like to highlight the Borinqueneers as we continue to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. I'll dig deeper into how our state is honoring those elite Puerto Rican soldiers.
If you receive a suspicious text from the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services, you should be aware that it's a scam! I'll dig deeper into how to avoid becoming a victim.

 |
| October marks the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and here in Connecticut we have more reason to be hopeful and energized as we renew our commitment to early detection, support, and advocacy, and to celebrate the progress our state has made in expanding access and protections for those at risk. |

In Connecticut, there is meaningful momentum in the fight against breast cancer. Under state law:
- Health insurance policies in Connecticut are required to cover diagnostic and screening mammograms, breast ultrasounds, MRIs, and much more.

- We expanded coverage to cover additional diagnostic screenings (beyond mammograms) for individuals at increased risk due to family history, genetic testing, prior radiation treatment, or dense breast tissue.

Additionally, Connecticut's Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program offers free screening, diagnostic, and referral services to underserved populations statewide. This is a vital safety net for those who might otherwise fall through the cracks.

| We are raising awareness, honoring fighters, and supporting survivors in our community. Last month, I was proud to sponsor the Strikeout Cancer Softball tournament in Waterbury, an event that brought people together to enjoy the game and stand in solidarity with those affected by cancer. |

 |

| Events like this remind us of the power of teamwork on and off the field in helping to fight this disease and support families in need. Congratulations to the Las Rookies team on their hard-earned victory, and thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, or cheered. |

Hispanic Heritage Month Highlight:  The Borinqueneers |

 |

 |

| This Hispanic Heritage Month, Connecticut proudly honors the legacy of the 65th Infantry Regiment: The Borinqueneers. These brave Puerto Rican soldiers served our nation with courage and distinction. Our new commemorative license plate ensures their sacrifice is remembered on every road across our state. |

 |

This legislation, which I proudly co-sponsored, is a meaningful tribute to the Borinqueneers, recognizing their bravery, devotion to duty, and pioneering military service. Funds raised from the sale of license plates will support Hispanic heritage programs and initiatives across Connecticut.
I will provide more information on how to buy these commemorative license plates once they become available to the public. |
