Dear Neighbor,

Happy Friday!

Warming Centers

Governor Ned Lamont activated Connecticut’s Severe Cold Weather Protocol today at noon, and it will remain in effect until noon on Wednesday, January 28, due to a blast of extremely cold air that will impact the state during this period.

Please be reminded that warming centers throughout the area are available for individuals and families in need. You can search for them here. These locations provide a safe, heated space during extreme cold conditions.

Upcoming Groton Town Hall
I hope you'll join me and State Reps. Dan Gaiewski and Aundré Bumgardner for a Groton Town Hall next Wednesday, Jan. 28 from 6-7:30pm at the Thrive 55 Senior Center (102 Newtown Rd., Groton). We will give you a preview of the 2026 Legislative Session and talk about the issues most important to you. I hope to see you there!

Human Trafficking Awareness Month
Human trafficking is a crime that thrives in the shadows. This month, we shine a light and step into action to prevent human trafficking in Connecticut. During the 2025 session, we passed bipartisan legislation prohibiting various forms of discrimination by employers and owners of prospective rental units based on someone’s status as a sexual assault or human trafficking victim.

Congratulations to newly sworn in State Representative Larry Pemberton Jr. sworn into office in the chamber of the Connecticut House of Representatives this week, becoming the first Native American elected to the state’s General Assembly. This was such a historic day, so proud to see the support and the great smiles on this amazing occasion.

Juvenile Justice Policy and Oversight Committee Meeting

It was a great day at the Capitol, where we welcomed some strong advocates who showed up, spoke out, and supported important issues discussed during the Juvenile Justice Policy and Oversight Committee (JJPOC) meeting, including the Transportation Recommendation, the Truancy Recommendation, and Emerging Adult Parole.

Thank you to the Coalition for Communal Healing Through Justice, our new community expertise work group members, and the JJPOC members for a productive and meaningful meeting this week. Great to see New London Advocate and community Leader Ruben Santiago come to Hartford in support.

Coalition for Communal Healing Through Justice Reform

Great event this week at The Place for Community Wellbeing, thank you Ruben Santiago, James Jeter and the panel for the Coalition for Communal Healing Through Justice Reform. Was great to see the New London community and those from Hartford & New Haven come together to discuss combating justice reform through the community. Looking forward to followup discussion.

Connecticut is the Fourth Healthiest State!

Connecticut was ranked 4th Healthiest State in the Nation by the United Health Foundation. This score is determined by data collection in areas related to social and economic factors, physical environment, access to healthcare, health outcomes and behavior.
