Rep. Meskers Introduces Legislation For The 2019 Legislative Session
February 1, 2019It is an honor to be working on your behalf in the Connecticut General Assembly in Hartford. Reaching out to constituents and receiving feedback allows me to do my job in the most effective manner and lets me know what legislation to focus on.
I am excited with my appointment as vice-chair of the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee and my appointment to the Aging and Energy and Technology Committees - areas where I bring unique expertise and experience. These are critical committees that will help us fulfill our campaign promise to honestly address the issues in the state without losing our souls in the process.
I’m highlighting some important issues below that I will be focusing on this term.
Constitutional Amendment for Early Voting
I joined Secretary of the State Denise Merrill calling for a state constitutional amendment to expand opportunities for voting in CT. If approved, Connecticut would join more than 38 states and the District of Columbia offering some form of early voting.
Legislation I have Introduced This Session
Strengthening Connecticut’s Gun Safety Legislation
Requiring safe storage of guns, banning ghost guns, and requiring gun permit holders to present their permits to law enforcement upon request.
Move To Repeal Connecticut’s Estate Tax
Legislation to gradually repeal the estate tax in Connecticut.
Infrastructure Bank – Build for Connecticut’s Future
Legislation to create an infrastructure “bank” to promote improvements in roads, rails and other infrastructure to build a 21st century economy in Connecticut.
Protect Connecticut’s Environment
Legislation to strengthen Connecticut’s Green Bank and to protect Connecticut’s water as a public trust.
No Statute of Limitations for Sexual Assault
