Dear Neighbor,

The deadline to file your taxes is fast approaching. I wanted to share a few free resources that will ensure that your state and federal taxes are filed by April 15.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program offers free tax return preparation for individuals that have a disability, make less $69,000 or less annually, or speak limited English. There are several locations in New Haven, including the New Haven Free Library and Gateway Community College.

Click here to find a location near you.

AARP's Tax-Aide Program provides free tax counseling and preparation services to middle-and low-income taxpayers, with special attention to people age 60 and older. Many sites will e-file your federal and Connecticut returns at no cost to you. There are no locations in New Haven, but there are a few in neighboring towns, including East Haven, West Haven, and Hamden.

Visit the AARP Tax-Aide Site Locator to find a location near you.

I'd advise you to register as soon as possible - spaces are filling up quickly.

Sincerely,

Patricia Dillon
