Dear Neighbor,
Many committees are beginning to wrap up their legislative work. I wanted to highlight a couple of bills that I cosponsored that passed out of committee.
SB 397 was passed out of the Judiciary Committee on Monday. This bill would allow the state of Connecticut to bring legal action against federal officers if they violate citizens' rights. It will also expand the areas where federal law enforcement cannot take an individual into custody.
HB 5449 was also passed out of the Judiciary Committee on Monday. This bill puts restrictions on sharing and storing data from automated license plate readers. If passed, data gathered from these cameras can be retained for 30 days, and a warrant would be needed to access it after 7 days. This ensures that the data is only used in criminal investigations. Click here to read an article about the legislation.
The next step for these bills is debate on the House or Senate floor. I will keep you updated as they progress through the legislative process.
Sincerely,![]()
Patricia Dillon
