The Hamden delegation will hold a town hall on Saturday, February 21 at Thornton Wilder Hall. We will be available to answer your questions, hear your concerns, and share updates about the 2026 legislative session. The event will run from 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM. Hope to see you there! 
 

Are you interested in learning more about how government works? If so, Hamden Public Library is hosting a Civics 101 series. 

Participants of this class get a thorough education on the inner workings of government, including breakdowns on how to track legislation, the budget process, and more! 

Classes are held monthly on a Saturday morning, 10:30 - 11:30 AM and will be led by guest presenters who have expertise in the subject the area. Participants attending all nine classes will receive a special citation from me!

The first class will be held this Saturday, January 31.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation will hold a public information hearing tomorrow, January 28 concerning the MOVE New Haven Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project. The purpose of this meeting to provide the public with an opportunity to to comment or ask questions about the proposed project. Click here for more information.

Additionally, there will be a Hamden focused public meeting for the bus rapid transit overlay on February 18 from 6pm to 8pm at the African American Society on Manila Ave in Hamden. I will share more details once they become available. 
 

Attention Connecticut residents - a special enrollment period for Access Health CT will begin on February 1.

This special enrollment period is available for eligible customers to enroll in health coverage with the new state subsidy. Customers who qualify for this Special Enrollment Period include:

  • Households with an annual income between 100% and 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL), who are not already enrolled in the Covered CT Program. These customers will receive a state subsidy to replace 100% of the expired federal enhanced premium tax credit amounts.
  • Households with an annual income over 400% and up to 500% FPL. These customers will receive a state subsidy to replace 50% of the expired federal enhanced premium tax credit amounts.

53 years ago, Roe v. Wade recognized a woman's right to choose. Here in Connecticut, we continue to defend reproductive health and equitable access to care. 
 

The Town of Hamden is accepting applications from non-profit organizations for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Public Service funding of up to $11,000. Completed applications should be submitted electronically to CDBG@hamden.com. Applications will be accepted through January 30. Please see the flyer for more information.
 

The House is BACK IN SESSION starting February 4th. My colleagues and I are gearing up for a busy short session, working hard to pass critical legislation through May 6th.

Starting February 1st, 2026, the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will begin charging a $45 fee for air travelers who arrive at airport security without a Real ID or another acceptable form of identification, such as a valid passport or trusted traveler card. Travelers will be charged this fee to use TSA's ConfirmID identification verification system. The verification is valid for a 10-day period, so it may cover a return trip within that window.

To avoid unnecessary costs and potential security delays, travelers without a Real ID are strongly encouraged to schedule an appointment at their local DMV to update their ID as soon as possible.

The Aspiring Educators Scholarship Program, administered by the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE), is designed to support diverse students who graduate from public high schools in priority school districts and enroll in teacher preparation programs. The program offers up to $10,000 annually for tuition, with the application deadline set for February 6, 2026. This initiative is part of the state's broader efforts to diversify the educator workforce and address the teacher shortage.

Applications are now being accepted for the 2026 Sustainable CT Fellowship Program.

The Sustainable CT Fellowship Program is a paid, full-time summer position for students who are currently enrolled in a post-secondary degree program or who will graduate during the 2025–2026 academic year. Fellows gain hands-on experience supporting municipalities in implementing Sustainable CT actions, tracking progress toward certification, and fostering community engagement in sustainability initiatives.
