It's an exciting time of the year here in Waterbury as our students and educators returned to the classroom on Monday! The first days of school always bring a special kind of energy, filled with anticipation, new opportunities, and the promise of growth.
Teachers and school staff have been preparing for weeks to create welcoming and engaging environments where every child can thrive. Families also share in this moment, helping their kids get ready and cheering them on as they begin a new chapter.
This season reminds us of the incredible potential within our schools and the importance of working together as a community to support our young learners. When students succeed, Waterbury succeeds. I wish every student and educator a year full of discovery, success, and memorable experiences.
This time of year is also an important reminder to everyone to please drive safely and watch for school buses. Protecting our students begins with our roads. By law, drivers must stop when a school bus displays its flashing red signal lights. The first offense for failing to do so is a $450 fine, and repeat violations can result in fines of $500 - $1,000, up to 30 days in jail, or both.
Let's work together to make this school year not only one of growth inside the classroom, but also a safe one in our neighborhoods.
