School Bus Service Restored Under New Deal

August 26, 2025

I am pleased to report that bus service for Bridgeport Public Schools (BPS) students will resume this fall under a new deal. It will reduce costs while restoring and streamlining routes that had been cut due to budget restrictions. Safe and reliable school bus transportation is critical to supporting our students' education and daily success. The first day of school will be Thursday, August 28.

Due to critical challenges at BPS, Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) Commissioner Russell-Tucker announced in February the establishment of the Technical Assistance Team to work with BPS and its transportation company on a new contract. The Technical Assistance Team provided targeted support in financial management as well as instructional initiatives and processes.

A heartfelt thank you to CSDE Commissioner Charlene Russell-Tucker, Mayor Joe Ganim, Interim Superintendent Royce Avery, and my delegation colleagues for their commitment, collaboration, and tireless work in finding practical solutions for our students and families.
