A Conversation on Resilience and Parking at East Broadway

August 7, 2025

It was an honor to join residents of Milford’s East Broadway community for a thoughtful discussion on the beach about how we can work together to improve our shoreline neighborhood adjacent to Silver Sands State Park. Dozens of engaged neighbors eagerly shared their insights and concerns about the challenges and opportunities that our community faces.

One of the most pressing topics was storm preparedness. As you may recall, Super Storm Sandy caused devastating damage to homes, roads, and infrastructure in this area in 2012. There is a shared understanding that with more frequent and intense weather events, we must strengthen our local resiliency efforts.

Another major issue we discussed was the neighborhood's ongoing parking challenges. Since East Broadway is a popular summer destination, limited parking has become a constant source of frustration for both locals and visitors. Several neighbors advocated for stricter parking enforcement to make it more readily available for those who live in the area, to better manage traffic flow from side streets to the main road, and to ensure access for emergency vehicles.

We also took a moment to acknowledge and appreciate the recent paving and maintenance work along East Broadway. The state's efforts to clean, re-stripe, and restore the center medians have made a noticeable difference and reflect the value of sustained infrastructure investment in our community.

We agreed to reorganize a local homeowner’s association to represent the neighborhood to state and local governments. Organizers are already planning a second meeting, and I will share those details as soon as they are finalized.
