Honoring Firefighter Moreau

Firefighter Moreau dedicated himself to protecting our community, showing courage and selflessness every day. His passing is a profound loss for Plainville, for Connecticut, and for all who knew and served alongside him.

Governor Lamont has ordered flags in Connecticut to be lowered to half-staff in his memory.

My thoughts are with Ray’s family, loved ones, and the entire Plainville Fire Department during this incredibly difficult time. May we never forget his bravery and service.

Touring CT Lottery HQ

As Vice Chair of the General Law Committee — which oversees all matters related to gaming — I had the privilege last week of touring the Connecticut Lottery headquarters.

I met with many dedicated staff, including several Newington and New Britain residents, and got an inside look at their operations and strict security procedures to ensure fairness and integrity in every game.

I was impressed by the extensive measures taken to test every game, prevent tampering, and guarantee that players — and winners — can trust the system. The attention to detail and commitment to transparency is important for Connecticut residents.

The CT Lottery is a quasi-public agency, and all profits go directly back to Connecticut taxpayers. In fact, billions of dollars have been returned to our state’s General Fund over the years — helping to pay for:

  • Education
  • Health care
  • Transportation
  • Public safety

…and many other essential services that benefit us all.

We also had a thoughtful conversation about responsible gaming and the Lottery’s efforts to support those facing gambling challenges. If you or someone you know needs help, visit here

Loan Relief Working Group

The first meeting of the Working Group for the Relief of Connecticut Borrowers took place this week.

It was great to hear from CT’s Student Loan Ombudsperson, Michelle Jarvis-Lettman about her work helping borrowers and potential borrowers navigate student loans.

You can learn more about the meeting here: http://bit.ly/41e3fsX
And if you need help with your student loan, you can find it here: http://bit.ly/3H727Rg

As a reminder, if you went to college or vocational school in CT, you may qualify for the Student Loan Reimbursement Program. You may be eligible to receive reimbursement of $5,000 a year for up to four years of what you have already paid in student loans. You can find more details here: https://www.ctslrp.org

Angels Over Connecticut

Huge thank you to Bruce Scotti and Angels Over Connecticut, a 501(c)(3) charity based right here in Newington, for the incredible work they’re doing to support individuals and families in need.

This year, they donated $700 worth of food to the Got Lunch Newington program to help local kids and families during the summer.

We’re lucky to have such compassionate and dedicated neighbors in our community!

Celebrating Medicaid

On July 30, we celebrated 60 years of Medicaid.

This program has transformed American healthcare over the past six decades. Medicaid is a lifeline for millions of children and families across the country, and for almost one-third of Connecticut residents. This program provides access to essential health services to our most vulnerable communities. Let's celebrate this milestone and do what we can to support Medicaid services.

To honor 60 years of Medicaid, Connecticut Children's Medical Center created a list of 60 ways Medicaid continues to promote health, dignity, and opportunity for everyone. Click here to read more

Veterans Ceremony

New Britain's Veterans Commission will host a special dedication ceremony for the new monument that will be installed in Central Park honoring the brave individuals who have received a Purple Heart, as well as those who have suffered from Armed Services-related injuries or illnesses.

The ceremony will take place on Aug. 7 at 11 a.m.

The Big List
