Fighting For Our Students

Connecticut Attorney General William Tong joined 25 other states in suing the Trump administration over its unconstitutional, unlawful, and arbitrary decision to freeze billions in federal education funds, including more than $53 million in Connecticut. $3.8 million of which is at Bridgeport Public Schools. 

The lawsuit attempts to block any attempts to withhold or delay this funding.

This funding is already built into local school budgets in nearly every district in Connecticut for:

  • computers and technology
  • afterschool enrichment and field trips
  • social workers
  • English language instruction
  • teacher training
  • adult education and more

This funding freeze is already causing headaches for the upcoming school year. As a result of the Trump administration's actions, Connecticut and many other states do not have sufficient funding for staffing, signed contracts, and other vital services. 
While these funds remain under federal review, the Connecticut State Department of Education remains committed to providing timely guidance and clear communication to our district superintendents and funded entities, pending the resolution of this matter. 
 

Environment Bill Signed Into Law

Governor Ned Lamont signed major climate legislation into law, which:

  • commits Connecticut to net-zero emissions by 2050
  • expands clean energy incentives
  • supports green jobs
  • strengthens climate resiliency
  • places restrictions on the use of rat poisons and pesticides known as neonicotinoids

I’m proud to stand with colleagues and advocates who fought for a cleaner, fairer future. This is a win for our environment, our economy, and our kids.

Fallen Hero Fund

As of July 1, 2025, Connecticut stands united in honoring every fallen first responder. With the launch of the Fallen Hero Fund, we ensure their families receive the support and care they deserve.
 

More Support For Our Veterans

July is Military Consumer Month, a national effort to help Veterans and military families protect themselves from fraud and financial abuse. Scammers often target those who’ve served, but with the right knowledge and tools, you can stay a step ahead.

Here are a few practical ways to protect yourself and your benefits:

  • Take control of your cashflow by checking out this free financial class
  • Monitor your credit, veterans are eligible for free credit checks
  • Verify unsolicited calls or texts, including those claiming to be from the VA
  • Stick with trusted resources like MilitaryConsumer.gov
  • Report fraud at reportfraud.ftc.gov

Additionally, July 25th is National Hire-A-Veteran Day, and a reminder of the leadership, discipline, and drive our heroes deliver to the workplace.
