Beating the Heat & Humidity

The governor has activated the hot weather protocol through Friday night due to hot and humid conditions. Temperatures have hit the 90s with the heat index near or about 100 degrees.

Cooling centers are open and available throughout the state. Call 2-1-1 or visit 211ct.org if you do not have air conditioning or a cool place to stay. State agencies, municipalities, and other partners coordinate with the United Way 2-1-1 to make sure that information regarding cooling centers is available statewide.

Let's Talk About It:
Baseball Field Renamed & Boom Box Parade

On my weekly radio show, I had the pleasure of welcoming two special guests, longtime radio personality Wayne Norman and Windham Mayor Tom DeVivo, for a heartfelt conversation about two important community events.

Norman, a family voice from WILI radio, shared what an honor it was to emcee the recent ceremony renaming Eastern Connecticut State University's baseball field to Holowaty Family Field - a tribute to legendary coach Bill Holowaty. Norman called many of Holowaty's games over the years and considers himself part of the extended baseball family. Under Coach Holowaty's leadership, ECSU captured four national championships, leaving a lasting legacy on the program and community.

Mayor Tom DeVivo highlighted the excitement surrounding Windham's 40th annual Boom Box Parade, a unique Fourth of July celebration. A sea of red, white, and blue filled the streets as those who were marching and watching sang with radios in hand, blasting patriotic music broadcast by WILI.

Opportunity to Host a German Student

You have an opportunity to host an exchange student through the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX), an immersive exchange program between the United States and Germany.

Here are some of the benefits of serving as a host family:

  • An exchange student brings global perspectives into local homes and schools
  • It strengthens international ties and promotes cultural understanding.
  • It offers families an opportunity to engage in public diplomacy from their own homes.

CBYX students are bright, motivated, and eager to contribute to their host communities.
