Updates from State Rep. Gary Turco for May 9, 2025

May 9, 2025

Dear Neighbor,

House Democrats took action on Wednesday in passing legislation that limits when warehouse employers use production quotas.

The legislation also ensures that:

  • Employers must provide quota information upon hiring an employee
  • If quotas change, workers must be notified
  • Employees cannot be retaliated against for requesting work records
  • Quotas cannot be used to inhibit workers from using the restroom or taking an entitled break

Valuing people over profits is always good public policy.

House Democrats also voted Wednesday to make important changes to the Firefighters Cancer Relief Program, including among other things expanding the types of cancers covered to include skin cancer and authorizing workers’ compensation administrative law judges to handle appeals of any denial of benefits.

Newington Advocacy Day

What a terrific turnout for Newington Advocacy Day today. About 30 people attended the event, which started in the Legislative Office Building private dining room with remarks from Majority Leader Jason Rojas, me, Rep. Kate Farrar and Sen. Matt Lesser.

We discussed our priority bills and then went to House Speaker Matt Ritter's office, where more substantive discussions took place. Today was a session day, and I recognized the Newington residents in attendance on the House floor.

Thank you to everyone who attended.
