Updates from State Rep. Travis Simms for March 21, 2025

March 21, 2025

I recently attended the CT State College Legislative Breakfast at Norwalk Community College, where campus CEO Cheryl De Vonish, CSCC State President John Maduko, and CSCC Chancellor Terrence Cheng shared the campus’s positive academic metrics and discussed the importance of building partnerships with legislators and the business community.

Community colleges like NCC play a vital role in educating students from all walks of life, preparing Connecticut's workforce today and in the future!

Motor Vehicle Towing Bill Moves Forward

Great news out of the Transportation Committee, where a bill (HB 7162, which I co-sponsored) moved forward that would  provide protections for motor vehicle owners whose vehicles are towed and establish a consumer bill of rights regarding towing.

The bill stems from too many Connecticut residents saying they unfairly lost their motor vehicles and/or possessions within them after having their vehicles towed.

The bill attempts to identify and correct abusive practices in the towing industry that have had a serious and detrimental effect on motor vehicle owners. I believe this bill, if passed by the full legislature and signed into law, will have a significant impact on bringing the practices of the least owner-friendly companies closer to what the industry standard should be.

Music Mania

(Not) Just for Kids, hosted by the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra, takes place Friday and Saturday, culminating with the Music for All Ages concert on Sunday.

The events will highlight the Brass Quintet (trumpets, trombone, horn, tuba) and give attendees the opportunity to explore the science and physics of their sounds and learn the versatility of these instruments across different music genres.

Friday’s (Not) Just for Kids program is at Norwalk City Hall (125 East Ave.) at 4:45 p.m. Saturday’s (Not) Just for Kids program is at Norwalk Public Library (1 Belden Ave.) at 11 a.m.

The Music for All Ages concert is Sunday at Norwalk Concert Hall (125 East Ave.) at 3 p.m. Learn more at www.norwalksymphony.org.

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is hosting a safe boating class on Saturday at Flotilla 72 Training Center, 50 Calf Pasture Beach Road.

People can qualify for the state certificate to legally operate boats and personal watercraft in Connecticut waters by completing this one-day course. Boat America is a boating certificate class that offers an in-depth and interesting boating safety course, and provides the knowledge needed to obtain a boating certificate.
