Supporting the 2025 Equity Agenda

January 17, 2025

Dear Neighbor,

This week I joined Rep. Gillian Gilchrest, Sen. Gary Winfield, and over a dozen of my House colleagues with over 100 community members from the Connecticut For All Coalition at a press conference in support of the 2025 Equity Agenda.

The agenda, which is a roadmap for Connecticut to lift all its community members, includes introducing fair tax structures calling for the state's wealthiest residents and corporations to contribute their fair share in investing in our state’s essential services, childcare, education, affordable housing and affordable access to healthcare especially for our essential workers.

I also participated in the nonprofit community press conference looking for sustainable, equitable reimbursement rate increase for the state-contracted services to support our vulnerable neighbors, people with developmental disabilities, people needing treatment for addiction services, elderly, and the unhoused, among others.

I will champion these and more as our mission now is simple: Protect Our People, Fund Our Services.

Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
As we approach Martin Luther King Jr. Day, let's take a moment to reflect on the extraordinary legacy of a leader whose vision of justice, equality, and nonviolent resistance transformed our nation and inspired the world. Dr. King's unwavering commitment to civil rights reminds us of the power of courage, compassion, and collective action to create meaningful change.

Cold Weather Protocol
Gov. Ned Lamont for the third time this year has activated the severe cold weather protocol, running Sunday, Jan. 19, through Friday, Jan. 24.

The move gives our most vulnerable an opportunity to find a warm place during dangerously cold weather.

During the protocol, state agencies and municipalities coordinate with United Way 2-1-1 and Connecticut’s network of shelters to make sure that anyone in need can receive shelter.

Anyone who needs a warm place to stay is urged to call 2-1-1 to get connected to these services or visit 211ct.org to view a list of locations. Transportation can be provided if necessary.
